Job Posting: Community Centre General Manager

Robert A. Steen Community Centre, located in the heart of Winnipeg’s beautiful Wolseley neighbourhood, is seeking applicants for the role of General Manager.
Our community members are very active and engaged in the Centre and the ideal candidate will have exceptional people skills and a can-do attitude to continue our mission of making the centre a hub of fun, safe and engaging activity for all members of our catchment.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, and following the guidelines and requirements put forth by the General Council of Winnipeg Community Centres and the City of Winnipeg, The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations, staffing, maintenance and programming of one of the larger Community Centres in the city.
Responsibilities
Working within the framework of our existing policies and procedures, the General Manager will be
responsible for:
• Acting as the friendly forward face of the centre by attending the general office, engaging with the
community and responding to general inquiries.
• Managing rental bookings and fostering strong working relationships with our long term tenants
• Hiring, managing and supervising employees.
• Administering a diverse slate of events, recreation, sport and leisure programs to meet the needs of the community and providing leadership in developing new programs.
• Seeking and applying for available grants to improve the centre and its programming.
• Following the City Of Winnipeg’s safety standards, ensuring that the building and grounds are safe and well maintained.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will be driven towards continuing to grow and evolve the centre to best serve the community, be results oriented and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Other requirements include but are not limited to:
• Exceptional interpersonal, public relations, conflict resolution and and communication skills.
• Experience managing staff and volunteers
• Strong computer skills and willingness to adapt to new technologies including accounting software, word processing, database maintenance, basic website maintenance and social media platforms.
• Experience in day to day operations of a Community Centre or other community service focused non-profit organization is an asset.
The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal record check and vulnerable sector search.
